Pistolet Cavalerie a Silex de l’AN XIII - Sous Officier, Officier ou Cadeau, St Etienne 1813. Superbe Etat - French Flintlock Pistol
Description: In over 40 years of collecting French First Empire weapons, I have never seen a Year 13 pistol quite like this, or in this condition. This started out as a regulation rank and file pistol manufactured at St Etienne in 1813 with full arsenal markings, but then it was upgraded into a very special weapon – possibly made for a wealthy NCO or Officer, or as a presentation piece. The upgrade was clearly done when the pistol was factory new, not at a later date. The wood grip was incise carved in a simple but elegant style, the backstrap, trigger plate, trigger, ramrod, and external screws were all blued, and the barrel and lock were polished to a mirror finish, which is still visible in protected areas, like under the barrel and on the lock plate inside the curve of the frizzen spring. EVERYTHING on this gun is marked and matching, down to the ramrod and screws! It appears to have been fired a couple times, but the bore looks better than the outside of most Year 13 pistols I have seen. The original heating colors are still clearly visible on the inner surfaces of the tang from when the breech plug was heated for fitting to the stock. The gun mechanically functions as new - I put in a new French amber flint and it throws a shower of sparks. Additional detail photos are available at: ://s601.photobucket/user/GlentheRotorhead/library/Pistolet%20AN%20XIII%20Luxe%20St%20Etienne%201813?sort=3&page=1 Condition-wise, there are some minor issues that could keep this pistol from being restored to factory new condition: very minor pitting around the vent and wear to the frizzen face; a couple minor worm holes and several nicks and dents to the stock (especially severe on the bottom in front of the trigger guard) and a short shrinkage crack at the rear sideplate screw; several nicks and scratches to the brass furniture that are too deep to polish out; mottled finish to the exposed areas of the lock and barrel; wear to the blue, especially on the raised screw heads, and some minor rusting to the bluing at the lower end of the backstrap. All said, this is one of – if not THE – finest AN XIII pistols you will ever find outside of a museum. As such, I offer full seven day inspection privileges and a money back guarantee, including shipping to you. All I ask is that if you return it in the same condition as sent, and you pay for the return shipping and insurance. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Antique: Yes |
