U.S. Dragoon Antique R. Johnson Model 1836 Flintlock Pistol
Description: Antique R. Johnson U.S. Model 1836 Flintlock Pistol Very Fine Condition U.S. Dragoon Weapon Here we present an antique Robert Johnson U.S. Model 1836 Flintlock Pistol, made from 1836-1844. There were actually two manufacturers of these guns: Asa Waters and Robert Johnson. Combined, the production totals 41,000 guns. This was the last U.S. martial pistol to use the flintlock system, and many consider this the best of all U.S. flint guns due to its craftsmanship and aesthetic appeal. The gun is historically significant as this was the primary issue pistol during the Texas Revolution, Mexican-American War, and was even significantly used during the American Civil War, though typically in a percussion converted format. These were standard issue for U.S. First & Second Regiment of Dragoons during the time of the Texas Revolution and through the Mexican-American War, generally carried in a pommel holster on the saddle. This excellent example is one of 18,000 made by Robert Johnson and is marked such. The lock is also dated “1842”, the year that it was made. As you can see, this gun remains is its desirable original flintlock configuration, unconverted to percussion. Many of these were lost to attrition during so many conflicts, and many were converted for use by North & South during the Civil War. The military inspector cartouches are very clear and are “JH” for James Harris and “WAT” for Captain William Anderson Thornton. James Harris’s initials are also found on the barrel that he inspected. The metal is finished bright and couldn’t look any better. Bore is very fine. A collector’s dream. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 8.5 inches in length. Caliber: .54 The bore is in fine condition and the firing mechanism is excellent. Overall condition as seen in photos. Here is a very fine U.S. Dragoon flintlock pistol with lots of history for your collection. It is really difficult to find them in this condition.
