#2478 Unmarked Box-Lock Boot Pistol
Description: #2478 Unmarked Box-Lock Boot Pistol and/or Muff Pistol, approx 50cal percussion, circa 1845-1870. These were prolific little ultra-cheapie handguns during the California Gold Rush Era (1848-1855) with literally thousands made and carried for protection. Gold panning was especially dangerous, as claim jumpers found it all-too-easy to overpower a gold panner as he was squatting at the rivers edge. The gold panners found that hiding one of these very cheap little guns in the tops of their knee-high boots could be grabbed in an instant, cocked, and discharged in the blink of an eye …and while certainly not a “long-distant” weapon, at 10-15 feet, a 50-caliber ball makes a VERY serious impression the one receiving it!! This style not having the removable screw barrel, is about the cheapest of the cheap, but still a life saver in such a circumstance …and while not a high value antique as antique weapons go, it sure was invaluable if needed!! Action is working, bore is typically a rusty hole, and condition is G-VG for the type. $95 …or if you see something of mine that is over $2000 and buy it, then I’ll throw this in for free. (Such a deal!!) SOLD Antique: Yes |
