British Percussion Over/Under Pistol by Charles Spencer. Barrel marked “–Charles Spencer, Northallerton. St. London.–”. Bores are .52 caliber and are rifled. Barrels are 6” long, and 12 ½” overall. Locks have sliding safeties. Barrels have captive ramrods. Blow out plugs are silver. Stock is excellent with perfect checkering and 95% original varnish. Frame and locks have very good case colors. Gun is very good plus overall. Although this pistol is .52 caliber, the size, form, and design would place it in the category of a Howdah pistol. These guns would be carried in the “Howdah”, the basket fastened to the elephant during a tiger hunt in India, and were used as a handy self-defense weapon if a tiger tried to attack the hunters in the Howdah.
