FRENCH MILITARY PERCUSSION
(converted)
PISTOL--Model
1822
Description: A nice example of a very solid/sturdy French military pistol- Model 1822 believed converted from flintlock to percussion action in 1861. The conversion was very neatly done as the pictures indicate and most likely performed at the L Etienne Armory where the pistol was made. There are many military and proof marks including three stamped in the wood on the left side above the trigger. The action is very strong. . The ramrod is also a powder measure/ loading rod. There is a lanyard ring in the butt. The front sight is a rounded ramp style. The barrel, lock, backstrap and part of the trigger guard were finished in bright steel. The hammer appears to have been blued with some color remaining. The butt cap, trigger guard and side plate/barrel strap are brass. The metal is in very good condition . This pistol has obviously seen some action. The walnut stock is nicely grained and is in very good condition with no splits, cracks or lost wood and very few dings or handling marks. The barrel tang is marked :1822" which would be the year of manufacture as a flintlock. The wood stampings are probably regimental markings. It is .70 caliber and the barrel is 7 & 3/4" long. The overall length is 14". The action is very strong! This is an antique so no FFL is required. It may be sent directly to a new proud owner.
