SERVICE PISTOL IN THE ENGLISH MANNER CIRCA 1850’S-60’S. 14” o/a with 8” octagon smoothbore barrel with brass front and rear sights. Barrel signed with three Kanji on the left flat and stamped on the lock plate just forward of the hammer with a Japanese Ordnance stamp. Steel ramrod with stirrup retainer. Wood stock with brass mounts. Brass butt cap of a pattern used on British Light Dragoon pistols as well as on other European Military pistols of the period. Various of these appeared in the Far East at the time and Japan apparently adopted the form as evidenced by this example. However we can find no reference to a one and can only speculate. Appears entirely Japanese in manufacture. Undoubtedly rare. Price: $1,800 Antique: Yes |
