Pettengill Revolver Army Model U.S. Martial
Description: Serial #3445, .44 Caliber, 7 1/2” octagon barrel with a very good, bright bore that has some mild freckling within the grooves. This is an extremely rare revolver that has retained about 75-80% of the original blue mixing with plum-brown on the matching cylinder, and traces of original bright blue along the barrel, especially along the underside and at the breech, with the balance having flaked to a smooth gray-brown patina. The frame has an overall lightly mottled gray patina with clear markings and crisp “WW” inspector marks throughout, while the loading lever assembly has muted original color case-hardening still visible. The walnut grips have been sanded and re-oiled over minor handling marks and light blemishes, but the U.S. inspector cartouche is still just visible on the left side. The mechanism is currently tight and fully functional, but due to the notorious fragility of the components, it is not recommended that it ever be cycled. These are exceedingly rare revolvers with only a handful surviving to the present day. (Please note: Due to the unusually fragile components used in these firearms, we will not accept a return should the revolver come back to us with a non-functional action.)
