“ODDITY” FRENCH Antique “GAULOIS” Palm Pistol
Description:
“ODDITY” FRENCH Antique “GAULOIS” Palm Pistol
SCARCE Pistol Design from Late 19th Century France
Here we present an antique “GAULOIS” No. 1 Palm Pistol, made circa 1893 by Manufacture Francaise St. Etienne Armes Et Cycles. The Gaulois was a compact, squeeze-type palm pistol made for self-defense in late 19th Century France. The name “GAULOIS” refers to the Gallic ethnicity of those in France. It held 5 rounds of 8mm and is fired by squeezing the rear grip into the body of the gun. The design was successful, but short-lived as semi-automatic pistols became just as small, and perhaps more effective and reliable. This followed the same trend as other types of palm pistols of the period, such as the “Protector”, which also originated in France. Nevertheless, here is an oddity that will be the talking piece of your collection.
The overall condition is good. About 55% of the original blue finish remains. The markings are clear. The serial numbers match. The hard rubber “grip” at the back of the trigger bar is about 35%. The bore is smooth and dusty. The action is excellent. Here is a very neat little palm pistol from late 19th Century France!
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 2-¼ inches.
Caliber: 8mm
