Erfurt 1913 Luger with Unit Markings w/ Holster
SOLD
Description: 1913 was a pivotal year in the Luger production. Both the stock lug on the rear of the frame and the addition of the hold open device were added and become standard on all Lugers. This Luger was produced in the transition after the hold open was standard and before the stock lug was added. A small percentage of 1913 Lugers had unit markings added to the inside grip strap. This Luger was marked "F.M.G.A. 7.23." This translates as "Fortress Machine Gun Detachment 7, Weapon # 23." Having seen use in the trenches of WW1, this Luger shows some honest wear but overall is in good condition. It is all matching except for the period correct magazine. Every numbered part is matching. The factory blue finish would rate at 90% with some browning on the grip straps. The straw colored parts are really nice overall with 95% of their straw finish remaining. The wooden grips show some expected wear and are free from cracks. There is a 1 inch gouge on the right grip panel which I have pictured. The bore of this Luger is very good with strong and sharp rifling. This Erfurt has also been stamped with the number "82" above the lanyard loop. This could be a police marking or military marking added during the Weimar Republic or possibly during WW2. Please see the pictures to see what I am describing. This Luger comes with a 1916 Hans Romer Berlin marked holster. The holster is in great shape with complete stitching and the leather is still pliable. It has obviously been cared for over the years with leather conditioner to keep it in this nice shape. Lugers are one of the most collected pistols in the world, and this example which is over 100 years old would be a great addition to any collection. The Fortress Machine Gun crews usually saw a lot of action and there is little doubt that this Luger witnessed it's fair share.
