AGE of REVOLUTION Pair of Large Antique Western European Pistols
Description: Pair of Age of REVOLUTION Antique EUROPEAN Pistols Handsome Matching Carved Percussion Pistols Here we present an antique Pair of European Percussion Pistols, made in the first half of the tumultuous 19th century in Western Europe. These pistols were certainly made for combat. Not a regulation pistol, these could have been purchased by a military officer and carried into battle or simply for self-defense during travel. Pistols of similar construction were made in Western European nations in the relatively narrow window of the percussion firing system’s zenith, about 1820-1860. France, Germany and the Netherlands are likely candidates for their country of origin. This period played host to chronic conflict between European countries, European countries and their colonies, as well as internal struggles and revolutions. These pistols feature long, smooth-bore barrels with carved wooden stocks going the full length to the muzzle. The tips of the stocks and the ramrods are finished in ebony. The pommels are bird’s head shaped and wear fluted caps of brass. The escutcheons opposite the locks are delicately figured and ornamental. The barrel tangs are of brass and bear small hollows to serve as the rear sight with front sights of brass blades mounted 2 inches from the muzzle. Trigger guards and ramrod pipes are of sturdy brass construction. Barrels begin octagonal at the breech and transition to round toward the muzzle, keeping the top flat just past the front sight. Light engraving is still to be found around the breech and front sight. Locks are beveled around the edges and are unmarked inside and out. Overall condition of these pistols is very good, though one of the pistols’ nipple bolster has broken off. The locks and barrels share a very nice, dark, even patina. The brass components too have browned with time. The stocks are beautifully grained and in very good condition with one of the pistols having a small, triangular splice behind the lock. One of the ramrod has also been repaired, but the repair is invisible when mounted under the pistol. Bores are in very good condition, clean with little to no pitting. Actions are fine. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 12 inches in length. Caliber: .58 percussion The bores are in very good condition and the actions are fine. Overall condition as seen in photos. Here are two stately European pistols, perfect for display. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
