Remington Rider Magazine Pistol. Made c. 1871 to 1888. Total quantity estimated approximately 15,000 (likely less). They were not serial-numbered. .32 rim fire extra-short. Five-shot magazine located below the 3” octagon barrel. Breechblock/cartridge carrier device positions adjacent to hammer; magazine loads from muzzle end.Walnut grips standard. All parts nickel plated. Barrel marking: E.REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, N.Y./RIDERS PAT. AUG. 15, 1871. This Joseph Rider invention is one of the most unusual of nineteenth century pocket pistols and one of the first metallic cartridge weapons using a tubular magazine. One of the few instances where gun is originally factory engraved.
Condition: Excellent. Virtually all the original factory nickel finish with a few tiny spots of corrosion, hammer and loading mechanism have most of the original blue; grips are excellent with most of the original varnish finish. Works fine mechanically and loading tube is original and in fine shape.
