Antique Smith & Wesson 2nd Model SA .38 S&W Caliber. Low S/N!!
Description:
SOLD..Antique Smith & Wesson 2nd model SA .38 caliber. Here is a nice S&W 2nd model SA. It is in the S&W .38 black powder caliber. Very low S/N 299 so probably first month or earlier production made in 1877. ALL numbers matching throughout of course. Has the standard 3 1/4" barrel. Has quite a bit of original nickel finish. The barrel has about 90% finish with a spot of corrosion on the muzzle end where the nickel has flaked off and turn a dark brown that will show some light pitting. The cylinder has 75% finish and shows some areas where the nickel has flaked off. The frame is very nice and retains 98% finish. The grips are excellent with NO cracks or chips and a perfect factory fit. Still shows all the fine checkering with very little to no wear. All the markings are excellent as well. The mechanics are excellent. Crisp and tight as a new gun. Rock solid barrel to frame fit at the hinge and the barrel latch to the frame. Barrel latch still shows 85% blue. The trigger has 50% blue. The case colors on the hammer have faded out to a medium brown patina. ALL the screw heads are perfect and un touched. Even the main spring tension screw is perfect and this screw is usually burred up from tinkering. The bore is near excellent and will probably clean to perfect. NO pitting or roughness. The chambers are excellent as well with NO pitting. That is about all I can say on this one. Just a very nice little S&W that does show some honest use but NO abuse. Neat early S/N if you like these low numbered guns. $15 insure priority mail shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos.
