Over 50 million doves reside in Cordoba Province and government studies show that the population is stable or growing. As a result, the season is open all year round, as doves are considered a pest and consume 20% or more of the local grain crops. The hunting area is located northeast of the Cordoba city, and is characterized as an agricultural plain with many corn, wheat, sorghum, sunflower, and soy bean fields. During harvest season, April to July, the morning hunting takes place in these grain fields. The afternoon hunting takes place in fields that are located on the way to the roost areas. During the roosting season, August through February, the birds are constantly moving to and from the roosting area.
