#10279 & 10280, William Powell & Son, Carrs Lane, Birmingham: A 12 Bore Pair of Boxlock Ejector Game Guns Made 1898, Both guns rebarreled with modern 30" Ejector Dovetail lumps with a dolls head extension plus a third bite, Webley screw grip actions: The #1 gun rebarreled by Powell in 1961 & Birmingham proved at 3 tons with 2 1/2" chambers, They are .729 .012 & .019" (Imp.Cyl. & Mod.), 2 1/2" chambers, Wall thickness on the right & left barrel at .035": The #2 gun rebarreled by Russell Hillsdon in Chichester & so marked, It was done in 1953 & Birmingham proved at 1 1/8 ounce with 2 1/2" chambers, Then in 1999 it was reproved in London at 850 BAR & 18.9mm bore size with 2 1/2" chambers, They are .745 .018 & .027" (Mod. & Imp.Mod.), 2 1/2" chambers, Wall thickness on the right barrel at .024" and .026" on the left barrel, The pair with Ejectors, Double triggers, Splinter forend, Straight hand stock and both 15 1/8 x 1 9/16 x 2 3/8" over 1" pads, Cast-Off for the right hand, The #1 gun was very professionally restocked, Both guns 6 lbs. 8oz., 90% coverage of very tight scroll engraving, No case colors remain, The wood is very sound on both guns and certainly ready for many more years of extended shooting, Both guns are mechanically sound; Both remain in excellent condition as refinished, rebarreled & #1 with a fresh buttstock, All 4 barrels are free of any pits. The pair was serviced by Atkin Grant & Lang and they exported the guns to the U. S. They are cased in the original maker's brass cornered leather trunk with the original trade label. If you like a slight bit of cast-off and a 15 1/8" LOP; these two come to the hand with ease. Here is a very nice pair of guns with modern nitro proof barrels that have a lot of miles left. ///////////////////////// William Powell has been in the trade since 1802 and it became "& Son" in 1847. The strength of this firm lasted through five generations of the same family. In 1938 Powell worked with Stoeger Arms in New York to distribute and sell their sporting guns.
