Antique 1892 Winchester. 38-40 Octagon Barrel. Excellent Mechanics. Very Good Bore
Description:
SOLD...Antique 1892 Winchester 38-40 octagon barrel. Here is a pretty nice 1892 Winchester. It has the standard 24" octagon barrel. S/N 119189 and made early 1896. This is a very accurate rifle in the best shooting caliber 38-40. The bore is very good. Strong rifling all the way through with some black powder roughness. NO rings or bulges and still has some shine in places and I know it willl clean up a little better. The mechanics are excellent. It feeds , fires and ejects perfectly. I test fire all of my rifles and this gun shoots great with the standard cast bullet cowboy action loads. NO bulged cases and NO backed out primers. Both hammer notches are perfect and solid.. The metal still shows traces of blue in the protected areas on the bottom flats of the barrel and on the mag tube. Traces of blue on the lower tang around the trigger also. The balance of the metal is a smooth plumb brown patina. It has some very small specks of some surface crud on the barrel and mag tube but nothing that detracts at all from this ole 92 and has never been cleaned on or messed with. There is no pitting on the gun but a little pin pricks on the top of the bolt from black powder flash. The screws all look good and not all burred up from tinkering. It still has the original front and rear sights and never filed on or messed with. The markings are excellent. The wood is very nice also. The forearm has a couple pea size goudges as you can see in the photo. NO splits or cracks and still fits good to the metal. The butt stock is solid with a small grain split off of the upper tang as the photo will show. It is solid and not going anywhere. NO other splits or cracks and still shows what could be original varnish. The stock fits tight to the metal as you can see and still fits full in places with no other issues other than the common usage mars and dings. All in all a pretty nice and honest antique 92 Winchester for the money. Getting hard and harder to find nice collector, shooter antique 92's and 94's at reasonable prices. This gun has a lot of life left in it and would make a very nice shooter or mid range collector. It shows NO abuse and just honest use and much better than the busted up ones with heavy pitted bores that won't feed or function. I am finding more and more of these that just do not work period.... I see a lot of barreled actions and parts selling at s that are being used to "piece together" guns. These ole Winchesters are going to be just like the early Colt SAA and there will be a day when most all you find are put together parts guns. Here is an honest one at a reasonable price for you. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. $50 insured shipping. Please see my other items while you are here.
