Description:
Only 6000 of the 26,000 of these pistols that were made were stamped " & Co." on the lock. This one would rate an NRA- FINE condition status.   8 & 1/2" barrel . The brass has a nice age mellow patina. The overall length is  14".  A .54 caliber smooth bore barrel. There are two inspectors cartouches  (somewhat faint )  on the left side of the stock. The action is very strong and the hammer holds on full and half cock. These pistols were used  in the American Civil War  and in the War with Mexico. The lock is clearly marked " H. Aston & Co." and  also at the rear portion "Midd._ tn, Conn. 1852".The top of the barrel is stamped: "U.S.,, WN and P".. There is also a "B" lower down in the same area. These were all various Federal Inspectors marks. There is a  captive ramrod.

A nice piece of American military history.
