Description:
This is a magnificent matched set from one of the best gun makers in the world: “J. PURDEY & SONS, AUDLEY HOUSE, SOUTH AUDLEY STREET, LONDON, ENGLAND. “ The serial numbers are 27***. The 27" barrels are nitro chopper-lump barrels signed in full on the tubes and consecutively numbered “1” and “2”' in gold.  The bores are choked Improved Cylinder and Modified Choke and chamberd for     2 3/4".  The extra barrel is numbered “1” and bored Improved Cylinder and ¼” Choke. The actions are engraved with the finest acanthus foliage and signed with the maker’s name on each side. Above and below the bar, and on the undersides of each is engraved with a differing vignette of a running hare. The sidelocks are each engraved with additional foliage and differing scenes involving game birds: On the No.1 gun is a scene of mallards in flight on the right plate and a cock and two hen pheasants on the left. On the No.2 gun, an exquisite engraving of partridges in flight on the right plate and a trio of English partridges in flight on the left. Both guns are signed with the engraver’s name.  Beautifully figured stocks, with sharp checkering, and checkered dark horn butt-plates. The underside of each stock has gold-inlaid initials “F.W.”. These guns also feature the highly sought after rolled-edge trigger-guards each engraved with the actions. 13.25" LOP on each gun. Comes with the original fitted leather motor case with accessories.
