Description:
#17739, John Rigby & Co. 43 Sackville St. London: A Rising Bite Sidelock Ejector Double Rifle in 350 #2 Nitro Express Made in 1914 with 26” Ejector Chopper Lump barrels, 1/4 rib with 1 standing & 2 folding rear sights, Nitro proved at 51 1/2 cordite with a 225 grain bullet, Original single lever detachable scope bases, A custom made 1 piece scope mount base made by the single trigger master Mr. Joseph Jurjevic for & using Conetrol rings, This scope base set-up does not alter the original scope bases in any way, A 1X Leupold scope mounted in Conetrol rings, Bushed strikers, Double triggers, Spring actuated locking safety, Engraved trapdoor grip cap, 14 7/16” L.O.P. over a 3/4" leather covered pad, 9 lbs. 2 oz. without scope & 10 lbs. 1 oz. with the Leupold scope, 97% coverage of classic Rigby scroll, Traces of case colors remain, The best news on this piece is the bores are excellent plus, The rifling is sharp and square in both the right & left. The locks are by Chilton and both remain in excellent condition. Several years back Marvin Huey did his masterful touch with a Deluxe Oak & Leather trunk case made for this piece and he added a lot of very nice accessories. This remains a very honest Rigby Sidelock with excellent plus bores in a neat cartridge that has all the same game performance of a 35 Whelen. This very rifle is African proven by a Great Lady from Nevada. I knew her quite well and she booked her own trip, went by herself as her husband was tied up with politics in D.C. and took a very nice Elephant with this very gun. I knew her husband as well and she didn't care for his 470 Rigby so off she went with the 350 #2 Rising Bite. What a Gal.

The breech face marked with the R & B (John Rigby & Thomas Bissell) Patent #1141 which was patented March 21, 1879, the beginning of the Hammerless gun era, for the barrel locking method which we call the rising-bite. It is also marked #1045 in this vignette which applies to this gun as being the 1,045th gun built under the R & B patent.
