Stunning Engraved Silver Plated Remington New Model Army with Carved Ivories
Description:
One of the prettiest black powder revolvers we have encountered. Remington New Model Army 44 percussion S/N 143,xxx range and all matching numbers. Near completly covered in engraving with sliver plate finish and carved ivory grips. The history of this fine piece is a mystery. Several hours of looking under a glass does not reveal any signatures or initials to I.D. the engraver. The pictures should show you the care and detail that went into this piece. It comes from a life long Remington collectors personal stash. As there are no Remington factory records from this period and to the best of our research no " in house: engravers at Remington we are at a loss to explain it's origin. I personally feel it was done up as an engravers sample or perhaps an exhibition piece long ago, possibly when it was new, and it appears to be unfired since that time. The detail is painstakingly executed, scroll work, geometric, panels, and Wolf heads on both sides of the hammer. Banded muzzle with high relief vine work topped wit ha silver plate that shows some black to iridescent tarnish forming . Mechanically excellent with near new bore. The grips are undoubtedly original to this gun and show age cracking consistent with the age, the were dyed to accent the carving detail and also seem to highlight the carvers skill in different form. Simply one of the best engraved percussion Remington in existence that has once again seen the light of day and is available for 1/2 the reproduction costs.
