Description:
Parker Brothers AAHE 20 gauge, 2 barrel set. As you know the AAHE is only surpassed by the A1 Special as the highest graded Parker (not counting the three special Invincibles) and this gun with two sets of 20 gauge barrels is among the most rare. The first set of barrels are Peerless steel 30” choked full/full (.025”/.025”) with .618” bores. Factory stamped barrel weight for the 30” barrels is 3 lbs. 10 oz. and electronically weighed they are 3 lbs. 9 oz. The 28” barrels were factory added at a later date and they are 28” Vulcan Steel barrels that are choked IC/Mod (.007” & .017”) also with .618” bores. (It was known to be common practice for a second set of factory added barrels to be of a lesser grade/expense). Their weight is stamped 3 lbs. 6 oz. and electronically weighed at the same, 3 lbs. 6 oz. Both sets of barrels have twin ivory beads and AAH engraving. Only 27 AAHE 20 gauge guns were ever built and probably less than a handful with two sets of barrels. Almost all AAH’s have some unique features to their engraving patterns that make each one a little different. This gun is beautifully and profusely engraved with ducks on both sides and on the bottom, all surrounded by scroll and “chain” borders. The stock is of the very finest Circassian walnut, straight grip, 14 ½” LOP to the skeleton butt, 1 ½” DAC and 2 ¼” DAH with neutral cast. Each set of barrels have matching splinter forearms. As noted in the photos the gun is equipped with double triggers and non-automatic safety. This gorgeous and fine AAHE shotgun weighs 6 lbs. 9 oz. with the 30” Peerless barrels and 6 lbs. 5 oz. with the 28” barrels.
Very few Parkers are in the serialization book between 228,000 & 232,000 with only one gun showing in the 231,000 range, # 231916. This gun is 231,570 so it does not appear in the “book” but there is quite a bit of provenance with the gun including a letter from Del Grego who did a complete restoration on the gun in 2013, a note from the previous owner and some other interesting paperwork. For a serious buyer I will be happy to send copies of the provenance. The gun comes with two cases: a fitted, two-barrel luggage case and an all leather, single barrel motor case with the original owner’s name engraved on the plate.
Since restoration by Del Grego the gun is unfired and perfect.
