1930 Colt SAA .45lc 4 3/4'' Blue / CC Movie Gun Owned By Ben Johnson
Description:
1930 Colt SAA chambered in .45lc with a 4 3/4'' barrel and blue / color cased finish. Per the Colt archive letter it was shipped Febuary 20, 1930 to California Hardware Company who received guns for Fox Studios. It is marked Fox Studio under the barrel and is a fully functional SAA and is not just a prop gun. This gun had over a 40 year career in the movies with the last known ones being Chisolm and The Train Robbers staring John Wayne and academy award winner Ben Johnson. This SAA was owned by Ben Johnson and he used it from the black and white era thru these movies. I think the coolest part of the documentation is where he signed a Southwest airlines tag stating it has been inspected and not loaded. For a gun that has had this much use it still remains in good condition but has quite a bit of finish wear. The numbers match on the frame and grip frame. The two numbers are not legible on the back of the cylinder. The front sight has been filed for quick draw. The grips have been replaced with one piece walnuts to simulate an older gun from the era the western movies were representing. The bore is bright and shiny. All 4 clicks are crisp and the lock up is tight.
