Colt model 1909, U.S. Army, .45 LC, early production
Description: In my extended family for six decades, this Model 1909 is in nearly new mechanical condition and functions perfectly. I have fired less than 20 rounds in it, and suspect fewer than 50 have been fired during family ownership. I verified functioning with modern factory .45 Long Colt rounds, as well as with period Frankford Arsenal rounds, as shown in some of the photos. Signs point to rare firing throughout its history, and excellent maintenance during that time. However, this is a service revolver that probably saw time in harsh environments of the far east, with extended daily carry. It has fine scratches, some finish loss, dented stock bottoms, and similar signs of age. I estimate finish level and condition at 70%. The bore and cylinder chambers, timing, action smoothness, lock-up, etc. are approximately as-new. If my research is correct, this Colt was made within the first 3-5 months of the model's life; I have not seen earlier examples listed for sale. All serial numbers match, but wear to the stocks' bottom has obliterated any stamped markings that might have appeared there. I took photos that honestly show the item's condition; if anything, they accentuate the flaws and wear present, rather than attempting to hide them. Please study the photos carefully, and ask any questions you may have. Only the revolver itself is included in the price shown, but some period ammunition is available---please inquire. The Model 1909's history is discussed thoroughly elsewhere on the web. The most interesting aspects to me are its status as a intended problem-solver, chosen from the commercial New Service line to replace .38 revolvers that wouldn't stop fanatical and determined assailants in the Phillipines. Apparently, the .45 lived up to its reputation. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Manufacturer: Colt Model: Model 1909 U.S. Army Serial Number: 33957 Caliber Info: .45 Long Colt Condition: see description |
