Smith & Wesson First Model American. U.S. Army Issue with oil hole under the barrel. Serial # 1318. Listed by serial number of the known U.S. First Model Americans in the Supica/Nahas book Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson. These revolvers were used 1872-1876 by the First through Seventh Cavalry. This revolver is correctly marked with the Ainsworth “3” A’s and the “3” P’s. The grips have been thickly varnished long ago and no cartouches are visible. Right side grip is correctly numbered to the butt strap number on the inside of the grip.
