Antique Colt Revolver, 44/40 with letter from Colt
Description:
The revolver comes with Archival letter from Colt. It says the serial number
The caliber which is 44/40. The finish was blued, however there is none left except for a nice patina. It was shipped to Simmons Hardware Company as one of Fifty. The date of shipment was
May 13 1882. All the serial numbers match. It all looks to be original
even the screws. There are three short lines of patent dates left side between the trigger guard and the cylinder. Sept 19,1871; July 2 1872; Jan 19-75. The black plastic grips are in very good condition. On the butt bottom besides the serial number there is stamped L.F.0.ZESG
After that there are two lines parallel with the letters which could be an H or II. At that time a 7&1/2 “ barrel was typical and this one is closer to 4&3/4. Most of the small screws have been dinged with but are still good.
Except for the one under the cylinder removal pin. It shows damage probably from someone trying to get the cylinder out and having some trouble maybe not having the correct tool. Mechanically very good. I can’t attest to the bore because of the screw under the cylinder release pin I don’t want to mar it up in any way.
I am going to guess this was not kept in someones drawer but used and over 100 years old the bore is typical, not the shining bore of a newer handgun. It is an Antique so there is no FFL required. It goes straight to your address.
