Here we present an antique Harrington & Richardson Manual Ejector First Variation Revolver with Holster, made circa 1886 in Worcester, Massachusetts. This was one of H&R’s first top break revolvers. Interestingly, this features a manual ejector, though an automatically ejecting revolver was made first. The ejector is simply a plunger rod extending from the front of the barrel assembly. Two guide rods hold the star ejector in place while the axis pin pushes the ejector out. This manual model was put into production due to Smith & Wesson stepping in to defend their patents for the automatic ejector. Only about 10,000 are thought to have been produced, making this a scarce example.
The top of the barrel reads “HARRINGTON&RICHARDSON.WORCESTER.MASS.U.S.A.” This revolver features very nice hard rubber grips with floral scroll. It comes in a black leather “FOLSOM’S/AUDLEY” holster that is marked “PATENTED/MAR.3, 1908/JULY 28, 1925” and “AP332/PP 4”.
The overall condition is fine. This revolver has been nicely re-nickeled. The finish is virtually complete. The markings are clear with the exception of a small spot on the top of the barrel. The original hard rubber grips are very fine. The bore is sharp and shiny. The action is excellent. Here is a great example of an early H&R!
