Post-CIVIL WAR Antique SMITH & WESSON Revolver
Description:
Post-CIVIL WAR Antique SMITH & WESSON Revolver
Fine Model No. 1-1/2 First Issue in .32 Rimfire
Here we present an antique Smith & Wesson No. 1-1/2 First Issue Revolver, made circa 1866 in Springfield, Massachusetts. This rather small 5-shot .32 Rimfire revolver was introduced in 1865, and was simply a scaled-up version of Smith & Wesson’s foundational and ground-breaking No. 1 .22 Rimfire revolver. Chronologically, it was released after the No. 2 “Old Army”, which was used throughout the Civil War, but was named the 1-1/2 due to its size, which fell between the No. 1 and 2. These were designed for concealable self-defense, and were the first rimfire cartridge revolvers. Smith & Wesson was able to dominate the market for metallic cartridge revolvers through the early 1870s with the Rollin White Patent, which they fiercely defended.
The overall condition is fine. The original nickel finish is 90% complete. The markings are clear and legible. The rosewood grips are very smooth and bear significant original varnish. The bore is well-rifled and in good shape. The action is excellent. Here is a very nice little post-War S&W!
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
