Description:
INTERESTING Eastern Antique Copy of COLT Revolver
With Middle Eastern CORSAIR Cylinder Scene
Here we present an antique Middle Eastern Copy of a Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver, made circa the 1850s. The Model 1849 was Samuel Colt’s most successful revolvers during his lifetime. It was specifically designed for use by civilians for self-defense. Licensed and unlicensed copies were produced in Europe among other places.
This revolver differs from a Hartford Colt in several ways: 1) the cylinder is about a ½-inch longer than standard, 2) the cylinder scene is of 4 corsair ships (reminiscent of those depictions of the Barbary Wars in the early 19th Century), 3) numerous markings 4) horn grips, and 5) obviously hand-crafted manufacture. The top barrel flat is marked “MERZIFOUN—AMELI—ABDOUL MOUTALIP”. The cylinder is marked “MERZIFOUNAMELI”. The frame is marked “ABDOUL”. The serial number is “1475” and all numbers match. “CROWN/Lamda” proof-style marks are found all over. The bottom of the barrel is marked “VXC/KJI”.
The overall condition is very good. The metal surfaces retain about 40%. A dark patina makes up the balance. The markings are numerous, clear and legible. The cylinder scene is very good. The horn grips show honest wear. The bore is sharp and clean. The action is strong. The cylinder safety pins are still intact. Here is a fascinating Eastern copy of Samuel Colt’s famous revolver that was obviously handmade! It very well may be a one-of-a-kind!
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 5-1/2 inches.
Caliber: .31 Percussion
Overall condition as seen in photos.
