London Proof Bar Hammer Transition Percussion Revolver 1813-1855
Description:
Up for sale is this London proofed Double-Action Bar Hammer Transitional Percussion Revolver. The proofs date it's manufacture to between 1813 and 1855 at the earliest. Overall it is in very good condition, with only minor pitting on a few external surfaces like the grip strap and cylinder. The bore still has some rifling, but there is pitting throughout the bore and inside the cylinder chambers. There is fine leaf engraving throughout the sides of the frame, grip strap and hammer. On the left side of the frame amid the engraving is etched "PD. Coult's Patent", and on the right of the frame amid more engraving is etched "London". On the cylinder, between the chambers, are two proofs, alternating, all the way around. The first is a Crown above a capital V, the second is a Crown above a CP. These proofs are also stamped on the bottom of the barrel. The pommel also has an unknown engraving. The wood grips are checkered and in very good condition, with the left side bearing a diamond around the grip screw. Mechanically, the action functions but does not always cycle, and the timing is off a bit.
