#4796 Savage-North 1860 Navy revolver, 7-1/8”x36caliber percussion
Description: #4796 Savage-North 1860 Navy revolver, 7-1/8”x36caliber percussion. Manufactured throughout the American Civil War, the majority of the Savage revolvers were sold to various War outfitters and military facilities. Quite clumsy looking and butt-ugly, and yet surprisingly easy to hold and point, the Savage also had a unique design where the cylinder retracted when rotating and then went forward and the cylinder sealed into the throat of the barrel, thus preventing side blast and loss of pressure. This revolver operates correctly, and has a typically uncleaned dark black-powder bore, but looks like it will easily clean to “Good” and perhaps Very Good with a bit more work. The exterior has overall light to moderate pitting and a brown patina, VG grips, good markings, but is missing the small military post front sight (which I think are still available from either Dixie Gun Works or S&S Firearms. The Savage is always a good conversation piece because of the unusual appearance, and they are true Civil War veterans. Good+/VG $1395 SOLD Antique: Yes |
