Colt 1862 Police
Description:
For sale is a First Generation Colt 1862 Police revolver, Serial # 11125, .36 Caliber, 6.5 inch barrel. The gun has all matching serial numbers. A serial number check showed this gun to have been made in 1862.
The barrel, cylinder, and frame have aged to an even gray patina with what appears to be some faded mottled remnants of bluing. There is no rust, surface or otherwise. The brass trigger guard and grip straps retain well over 90% of their original silver plate finish. A small spot on the high area of the rear strap is worn but all the rest appears intact. There is some discoloration on areas that is from what's left of the original protective laquer coating, visible in the photos. The discoloration from the old protective finish is far less noticable than in the photos. The two screws, one on either side of the rear bow of the trigger guard, still show some evedence of their nitre blue. Most of the other screw slots show evidence of their being removed.
The grips have no dents and are otherwise unmarred. They are nicely varnished but, I don't know if it's original. The bore is not perfect, however, I can see no deep pitting. The rifling is well defined from one end of the barrel to the other. The gun is well marked with all the usual civilian inspector's marks.
Included with this revolver is what I believe to be an original, but unmarked, Colt .36 caliber bullet mold. It casts both round ball and conical bullet. .
There it is. I've tried to be thorough with my description. Being over 150 years old, I have to sell it as is with no guarantees. I'm not selling it, or recommending it, as a shooter. I think it is a good, representative piece of Civil War Era history. Call me if you have any questions. I'm asking $2450.00. Free shipping and insurance to your door.
There's a three day inspection period, no shooting. Keep it and shipping and insurance are free. Return it with no questions asked, and buyer pays shipping and insurance both ways, plus the $12.00 listing fee. However, this only affects those with buyer's remorse.
