FIRST YEAR Colt 1848 Baby DRAGOON Revolver
Description: First Year Antique Colt 1848 Baby Dragoon Revolver
Serial No. 472 of Only 15000 w Ranger Indian Scene
Here we present an antique Colt Model 1848 Baby Dragoon revolver, made in 1847, the first year of production. The Model 1848 was Colt’s first pocket-sized revolver, the precursor of the 1849 Pocket Revolver with the stylings and cylinder scene of its big brother the Colt’s Dragoon. This is a desirable pistol for many reason, not the least of which is the name of “Colt” and “Dragoon”. This pistol was made in a small quantity from 1847-1850, about 15,000. The Baby Dragoon was chambered in .31 percussion and had a capacity of 5 shots. This is the earlier of two major variations of the Model 1848, and bears a roll marked cylinder scene of a Texas Ranger and an Indian fight.
This specimen is in overall very good condition. The grip frame is of brass with traces of silver plate and the rest of the metal parts bear a dark patina. The markings are clear and legible. The cylinder scene is visible all the way around and about 70%. The barrel wedge screw head is absent. The walnut grips show use, but are solid and in good condition. Serial numbers match. The bore is in good condition. The action is fine.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. A similar example is found for $6950 and not even a first year production!
Barrel is 4 inches in length.
Caliber: .31 percussion
Bore is in good condition and the firing mechanism is fine.
Overall condition as seen in photos.
Make this beauty the crown jewel of your Colt collection.
