Harris CUSTOM Engraved Colt SAA Peacemaker Revolver with Gold, Ivory & Letter
Description:
Gorgeous First Generation Colt Single Action Army Revolver Peacemaker
With Custom Engraving, Gold Inlay and Ivory Grip
Here we present a First Generation Colt Single Action Army Revolver, made in 1904 in Hartford, Connecticut. Known by many different names—Model 1873, Single Action Army and the Peacemaker, just to name a few—this very revolver has become iconic of the U.S. and particularly the West.
This specimen was engraved by the world-renowned Texas master engraver, David Wade Harris, of Jacksonville. David’s pedigree as an engraver traces back to Cole Agee by way of Weldon Bledsoe. Agee was a self-taught engraver, and a veteran of the Mexican Revolution, allegedly having flown planes for Pancho Villa’s forces. He in turn trained Bledsoe. Each of these are now well-known for their “cattle brand” guns. Harris continues the tradition, having sat under Bledsoe. His other influences are Louis Daniel Nimschke and Cuno Helfricht, both masters, trendsetters and legends, to put it mildly.
This example features Mr. Harris’s Sears Pattern of engraving. This very revolver appears to be one that is featured on his
as one of his “A Cut Above” pieces, and it is no wonder why. The grip is one piece of ivory. The frame, grip frame, trigger guard, cylinder and barrel are all fully engraved. The letter describes it as full coverage. The engraving pattern shows clear influences from Cuno Helfricht, most noticeably the sea shell shapes on the recoil shield, loading gate and backstrap, as well as the checker patterns on the barrel, frame and backstrap. The cylinder features an 18k gold border around the full circumference at the rear. Just forward of the gold band is a winding, snakelike border. The topstrap features an infinite chain. Arabesque scroll and fine punch dot fills the balance. Harris signs all of his work and his tiny signature is found within the scroll of the bottom of the grip frame.
The overall condition is fine. Virtually the entirety of the gold is present. The rest of the gun retains nearly 100% of its antique nickel finish. The ivory has experienced a small amount of shrinkage. The serial numbers match. Bore is in good condition. The action is excellent.
This comes with Mr. Harris’s personal letter of authenticity, including serial number, caliber, engraving pattern and special features.
