Colt Type II .38 Rimfire
Description:
This is a nice example of an early cartridge revolver that was originally made to fire metallic cartridges, and not converted from a percussion revolver despite being called a "conversion" gun by collectors today. In the 1870's, after the expiration of the Rollin White patent, the Colt Company scrambled to market a cartridge revolver to compete with Smith & Wesson and Remington. This is what they came up with. There are six variants of this pocket sized gun, with barrels ranging from 3 1/2 to 6 1/2 inches long, and chamberings in both .38 Rimfire and .38 Centerfire. This example is a Type II in .38 Rimfire caliber. It retains 90% of it's original factory blue finish and 60 to 70% of the color case hardening. The bore in this revolver is excellent and is bright with sharp rifling. The original walnut grips are in excellent condition and the action is tight and crisp. Everything on this Colt works 100% like it should. An excellent example of this evolution in cartridge guns, it would be very hard to upgrade from this one.
