SUPER RARE .22LR COURIER MODEL REVOLVER, FEW
MADE 1954-56.
Description: ONE OF THE RAREST AND HARDEST TO FIND OF THE POST WAR DOUBLE ACTION COLTS! THIS IS THE COURIER MODEL MADE FROM 1953-1956 ONLY AND LIMITED TO CALIBERS .32 NEW POLICE (.32 S&W LONG) AND THE MUCH MORE RARE AND DESIRABLE .22LR. THIS ONE IS IN .22 LONG RIFLE CHAMBERING! According to The Book of Colt Firearms by R. L. Wilson, only about three thousand of this model were made in both calibers combined. Wilson says: "The Courier is one of the seldom-encountered cartridge revolvers produced by the Colt Company. Advertised only in 1954-1955, it was quickly superseded by the Agent model. Both guns are the Cobra with stubbier butts. The Courier was available in .32 and .22 calibers and with 3" barrel." All had alloy frames, steel cylinders and checkered walnut grips with Colt medallions. Most of these that I've seen over the years have been in .32 caliber and because of the alloy frames often have a good deal of wear to the anodized finish that didn't hold up as well as a blue finish on steel. This example is one of the best I've seen as it has almost all the original finish and appears about unused. Even the face of the cylinder retains nearly all the blue indicating that it was seldom if ever fired. At worst it has a fleck or two of the tiniest of edge wear that you'd have to look carefully to find! Some of the most advanced Colt collections lack a .22LR Courier model!
