U.S. Navy Model 1895 Colt Revolver 1903 Contract
Description:
Serial #226417, .38 Long Colt, 6" barrel with a very good bore that has some light freckling within the grooves.
The metal retains 90-92% of the original, high polish blue finish with some silvering and fading at the muzzle and along the high edges and projections.
Small areas of mild surface freckling are scattered throughout, as well as a few spots of light flaking on the frame and barrel.
The hammer and trigger retain most of their original brilliant fire blue, while the butt has aged to a mottled pewter gray.
The checkered hard rubber grips are original and rate fine condition with a few minor handling marks and some minimal flattening of the points.
The grips are properly marked with the
assembly number, “1473”, on the interior, as are the crane and cylinder latch.
The “W” in 5-pointed star sub-inspector mark is present on the triggerguard, cylinder, cylinder latch, and barrel.
The butt has correct Navy markings: “USN/(anchor)/.38 DA/(triangle/'S')/No. 16/229/J.L.S/(ser. no.)”.
The lock-up is still firm and the action is fully functional.
This is a very nice example of a 1903 Contract U.S.N. Colt and rates fine-excellent condition overall.
