Colt New Service .44-40 caliber revolver. Manufactured in 1933. Popular .44-40 caliber. Barrel length is 4 ½”. Bore is perfect. Gun has 99% bright original blue. In his book, “Colt’s New Service Revolver,” Timothy Mullin shows on page 142 a variation titled, “New Services Assembled with Obsolete Parts.” In a cost cutting effort Colt used obsolete parts on New Services around 1934. The revolver pictured on page 142 is 336699. Our gun is 336645. 54 Guns apart. Both guns exhibit earlier high luster polish barrels and flat cylinder latches. The gun in the book is .38-40, ours is .44-40. Our thanks to Mr. Mullin for pointing out this factory variation. Otherwise we would be besieged by “Experts” saying that the gun was put together out of parts on a cold winter night in New England. Beautiful .44-40 New Service.
