"FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" REVOLVER - PERIOD CASE
Description:
Early Colt Single Action Army "Frontier Six Shooter" Revolver - ANTIQUE - Cal. .44-40 - 4 3/4" Bbl. - SN 141XXX(1891) - all matching - Includes period case. Bore is VG+ and is bright with sharp rifling but shows some moderate roughness. Action is excellent with perfect timing and lock-up - hammer has functional "safety" notch and 4 clicks. The ejector appears to be a period repair or replacement but works fine - the trigger may also be a replacement as it shows a lesser degree of wear than is apparent on the rest of the revolver. Metal is VG ++ overall showing some mild oxidation and spotting, wear, and light corrosion above the cylinder on the top strap. Markings are worn but visible but the "Frontier Six Shooter" stamping is mostly worn off. Original blue has drifted mostly to a pleasing dark gray-brown patina under thinned blue and there are a few signs of worn, darkened case color remaining on the frame - screws are generally excellent. The walnut grips are undamaged and have a period Indian design nicely tacked on each side - finish is worn to about 20%.
The period case is handmade of wood, with hook clasps apparently by the original owner and is covered in a soft leather that shows wear in spots. The case contains a couple of very old coin or gold pouches and an arrowhead along with a note from the last owner stating that the pouches (and presumably) the Colt belonged to his grandfather who was a miner in New Mexico and later California in the late 1800s. This is a very nice and interesting old Colt that shows honest use and wear with a period case and accessories that has a definate Western look and history. Should make a great and interesting addition to an early West collection
