Colt SAA Ivory, Cal. .38 Special
Description:
One of the few First Generation Colt Single Actions actually marked ".38 Special", and chambered with beveled shoulders in the cylinder, meaning it was meant to fire the Smith & Wesson .38 Special cartridge. Until the late 1920's, the .38 Colt, .38 Colt Special and .38 S&W Secial chambers had a 90% shoulder in the chambers. Because Colt officials were never overjoyed at marking "Smith & Wessn" on their guns, they generally referred collectively to both the .38 Colt Special and the .38 S&W Spcial as just "38 Specials", and usually kept their records the same way. Therefore nearly all standard Single Actions recorded at the factory as ".38", ".38 C, or ".38 Colt" were actually intended for the .38 S&W Special cartridge, but not marked that way. This gun, serial number 352025, is marked ".38 Special" on the barrel, but actually recorded as a .38/40 erroniously. It was shipped to Whitney Sporting Goods in Denver, Colorado on Sept. 5, 1928, with a 7 1/2 inch barrel and factory fitted 2-piece ivory grips. It is in perfect mechanical condition and retains about 75% to 80% of its original blue and case-hardened finish. Factory original ivory grips are rare, and especcially when combined with the .38 S&W Special chambering.. Comes with factory letter. PRICE: $5,950 We are Antique & Modern Firearms in Lexington, KY, dealer of fine firearms since 1974. PH. 859-276-1419 We Buy, Sell and Trade.
