Colt SAA, New York Engraved, in 44-40 Cal.
Frontier Six Shooter, 1st Generation, 1883 Vintage
SOLD
Description:
This .44 Single Action, serial number 92119 was shipped to Hartley & Graham in New York, NY in the "soft" to be engraved, in May 1883. The large volume firearms wholesalers like Hartley & Graham often ordered guns in the "soft", or not case hardened, from Colt since they could have them engraved, sometimes by the same engravers used by Colt, at a lower cost. The same was true for the special ivory or pearl grips. It's interesting to note that when two piece pearl grips were used, the placement of the screw was lower, toward the bottom, than those made by Colt, probably for more strength in the thicker part of the pearl. Regardless, this is an excellent example. It is one of the desirable etched panel .44 Frontier Six Shooters with a 4 3/4 inch barrel (with 2 line address) and it retains approximately 85% of its original nickel finish. The pearl grips are also original to Hartley & Graham and are in excellent condition with no cracks or chips. The bore shows some wear as would be expected, but is still good, and all other parts, including the scews, appear to be original. Overall, this is an excellent black powder Single Action.
