A total of 2,628 revolvers (not including Sheriff’s Models) were manufactured in this caliber. The P-1950 was the rarest model of the .44-40 caliber revolvers, only 5 were manufactured in this configuration, 4 assembled in 1983 & 1 assembled in January of 1984 noted on page 101 of Wilkerson’s “The Post-War Colt Single Action Revolver, 1976-1986.” Of the 5 revolvers manufactured it is believed that only one shipped from the Colt factory on accident being that this model was for a special project.
