#4974 Colt
S/A 7-1/2”x45COLT, 169XXX range (1896),
Description: #4974 Colt S/A 7-1/2”x45COLT, 169XXX range (1896), fine bore and action. The metal is very nice for its age and well above average for what is basically a no-finish gun, and aside of some light peppery pitting scattered mostly on the triggerbow and a little on the frame, it has almost no pitting or serious wear anywhere else. The overall look is well above what one usually sees for an old cowboy Colt, BUT suffice to say this (…and this is a VERY important fact!!)…that since many, if not most Single Actions have been restored, enhanced, and/or “juiced-up” to some degree (especially in the cases of the very highly sought after and desirable militaries), that the buyer should always take the possibility of some varying degrees of restoration into consideration …and so this Colt has been valued and priced with that probability in mind. In MY opinion, this revolver has had some up-grading with coloring, grip replacing, number refreshing, and the 45COLT on the side of the barrel looks to have been restamped a bit lower than the center line. The one-piece raised carved American “Eagle & Shield” aged ivory grips look REAL good, but do not fit well and I am sure that these are NOT real ivory, but some type of ivory dust and polymer reproduction grips. There are a lot of photos to this VERY desirable early Civilian S/A, so if they all don’t load (there are about 20 in all), just email me and I will forward them to you by return email. This is a real opportunity to own a real antique weapon from the Wild West frontier period …and one of the fastest value appreciators in the antique gun field.
