1st Model Smith & Wesson Schofield Wells Fargo Marked
Description:
There were 3035 first model and 5934 second model Schofields manufactured from 1875 until 1877. This one is serial numbered 1715 and was made in 1875. Standard chambering was .45 S&W Schofield, a short version of the 45 Colt. Standard barrel length was 7", but many Schofields were purchased as surplus by Wells Fargo and had the barrels cut to 5". Like the other Smith and Wesson Model 3's, they were quite popular in the American West. This one retains its serial number and US on the butt. It also has "Wells Fargo & Cos" with "1715" stamped on the right side of the ejector housing. Timing and lockup are very good. Bore is grey with sharp grooves and no pitting. Blue finish is around 80% and turning plumb
