Antique Smith & Wesson DA .44 Russian. Lots Of Original Blue. Cut Barrel. Factory Letter.
Description:
SOLD...Antique Smith & Wesson DA .44 Russian. Here is a excellent Smith & Wesson DA in the .44 Russian caliber. Factory letter included. Shipped in 1898 E. K. Tyron Co. Philadelphia PA. S/N 33418. All matching numbers but no number on the grips. Was shipped with 5" barrel but as you can see, it has been cut to 3". It has been done by an expert as you can see in the photos. The barrel has been properly crowned. The front sight has been pinned in and centered just like the factory. This was not some hacksaw job from some blacksmith my friends. This gun retains a lot of the factory blue finish. The barre has about 60% or so blue. The frame has about 85% including the front and rear grip straps and the cylinder has flaked down to about 30% with the most in the flutes and the cylinder locking notches. NO pitting on the gun at all. Never cleaned on or messed with. Still shows 100% very bright and vivid like new case colors on the hammer and most all on the trigger as well. {see photos}. All the markings are excellent but where the barrel has been cut off of course. The mechanics of course are like new. Crisp and tight as a new gun in DA and SA mode. Rock solid barrel to frame fit at the latch and the hinge. The grips are excellent as well. No cracks or chips. The left grip is just a hair under the back strap but fits perfectly all around the other contact areas so it might be from a different gun or just shrank a bit. Very hard to see and does not detract from the gun. The bore is bright with NO pitting as are the chambers. Some light scratches in the bore.. If this ole Smith was not cut, I am sure it would be worth well into the $3500 range. It is what it is folks. If you like the old cut barrel stuff then this is the gun for you. I have never seen a cut barreled gun have near this much original finish !!!! Most cut guns have been heavily used and in rather poor condition. This is absolutely not the case here. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. $30 insured shipping. If this one does not sell for what I am asking for it, I have no problem keeping it for a while in my own collection. I just love the high quality blueing remaining on this thing.
