Antique Smith & Wesson 2nd Model SA. .38 Caliber Some Finish. Cheap!!!
Description:
SOLD...Antique Smith & Wesson 2nd model SA. Here is a well used but not abused little Smith SA in .38 S&W black powder. Has the standard 3 1/4: barrel. Very early S/N 8160 so probably first or second year production 1877 or 1878.. All matching numbers of course. The barrel has about 65% or so original nickel finish. No finish remains on the cylinder and the frame has about 20% or so. Just not a lot of finish on this one. The balance of the metal is a smooth dark brown patina that has never been cleaned on or messed with. No pitting on the gun. Markings are all very good. Front sight is a very old period of use brass replacement. It was done correctly and the barrel nor the retaining pin have never been altered in any way so you could install a correct front sight if so desired. The mechanics are good but when cocked very slowly, the cylinder lacks about 1/16" of indexing all the way. If you cock it like you are going to shoot it, it indexes completely. The lock up is tight. No front to rear movement on the cylinder so that is tight as new. Rock solid barrel to frame fit at the latch and the hinge. No wobbles. The grips are very nice with NO cracks or chips. They show wear to the checkering and look very good on the gun and are a perfect factory fit. The bore is very good with strong rifling all the way through and just some very minor roughness but no big pits at all. Very good bore. The chambers are clean with no pitting. This would make a nice little shooter with proper black powder loads of course. Nothing special here but a well used Smith & Wesson pocket revolver. These were very popular guns in the day for good reason. Very reliable and powerful pocket gun in the day believe it or not!!! Now days if you don't carry a .44 magnum, you don't have enough gun !!!! This one is priced very reasonable and less than I have in it !!! A decent example. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos.... $15 insured shipping.
