Civil War Smith & Wesson No. 2 Old Army Revolver
Description: Serial #31701, .32 RF, 5” octagon barrel with an excellent, bright bore. Built in 1865 this is a handsome revolver that has matching assembly numbers on the frame, cylinder, and barrel and retains about 90% of the original blue with some mild fading on the edges, a turn-ring on the cylinder with some attendant graying as well, and some plum-brown fading along the backstrap. The hammer has some traces of original color case-hardening but is predominantly a mottled gray overall and the barrel lock-up is tight with only a hint of lateral play. The rosewood grips are numbered to the gun on the interior and have almost all of the original piano varnish remaining with a few minor surface blemishes and grain separations on either panel. Additionally, someone flattened the grip flare on either side, presumably to aid in holster carry at some point. The mechanism functions flawlessly and the revolver rates fine condition overall. Only about 1000 numbers away from the No.2 found on Hickok when he was killed! Antique SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: S&W Model: No.2 Serial Number: 31701 Caliber Info: .32RF Gauge Info: .32RF |
