Japanese Navy NM #3
Description: This S&W martial contract revolver was in the First Shipment of 1879 to the Japanese Government.Serial #5655 is one of the 230 guns shipped to Ahrens Japan. These all had 7" barrels and triggergaurd spurs. Has the correct Japanese Military markings, an Achor, denoting Naval usuage, and located on the frame in front of the triggergaurd.... 44 Russian, 7" ribbed round barrel with a good bore which is mostly bright . The metal surfaces are a good looking plum brown patina, the hammer is mottled as is the top latch ... There are overall tiny dings and handling marks and some sparse areas of very light pinprick pitting.
The original checkered Walnut grips rate good with near overall dings and handling marks, a chip out of the right grip and a few of impact marks are more moderate, they are numbered and their fit is good. Barrel-to-frame lockup is loose at the hinge and the gun seems to time and lock up properly. Barrel and barrel latch are numbered to the frame, . Overall a very good example of the Smith Japanese Naval Contract Model 3. $1880. REDUCED TO $1750.
