Description:
LETTERED Antique S&W “MODEL of 91” .38 SA Revolver
Shipped 1893 to Meacham In St. Louis, Missouri
Here we present an antique Smith & Wesson .38 Single Action Revolver, made in 1893 in Springfield, Massachusetts. This 5-shot revolver was shipped to famed St. Louis dealer Meacham Firearms Co. (known for their cartridge conversion of Sharps carbine) on May 8, 1893 per the accompanying 2-page factory archive letter. This was the Third Model of the .38 Single Action, and is distinguished from its predecessors with a rebounding hammer, a bowed trigger (versus sheathed) sheathed trigger, and a trigger guard. This was designed to be a self-defense firearm for the 19th Century civilian.
This specimen comes with solid mother of pearl grips that were added after leaving the factory. It also includes a very nice period original leather holster that fits it very well.
The top of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON/SPRINGFIELD MASS. USA/MODEL OF 91” and (18)75, ‘77 and ‘80 patent dates.
The overall condition is very good. The metal surfaces are dark with age and still bear traces of original blue finish. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match. The bore is in good condition. The action is excellent. Here is a wonderful Smith & Wesson revolver with an original leather holster and the factory letter!
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
