Original Factory Box for Smith & Wesson .44 Frontier Double Action Revolver
Description:
This is a very scarce original Factory Box for the large frame S&W .44 Double Action Frontier Revolver. The end labels note that it was for one with a 6" Barrel, Nickel Finish, and in the "FRONTIER" caliber which was 44-40 aka 44 WCF. The box has all of its original labels and is missing NOTHING...no edge pieces are missing. For as large as it is, its in surprisingly good shape for a 125 year old cardboard box. There is a little bit of warpage on the front edge and some of the corners are showing wear but Very Good Overall. Original exterior Maroon/Burgundy covering is all there and beginning to lift in a few places. The original instruction label is located on the inside of the upper lid and is completely legible. Note that at the end of the directions it mentions that this revolver is in .44 Smith and Wesson Russian caliber which was the original caliber for this model. I asked Smith and Wesson expert David Carroll about this and said this was fine and that the end label designates always designates caliber the revolver was chambered in when it left the factory. That said, if someone out there has a S&W DA 44 Frontier in Nickel with a 6" Barrel in NRA Antique Fine+ to Excellent Condition, here is a great chance to mate it to an original factory box.
