1977 Smith & Wesson Model 10-5 .38 Special Revolver in Nickel Finish
Description: For sale, a beautiful 1977 vintage Smith & Wesson Model 10-5 .38 Special revolver in factory nickel finish. This K-frame S&W is one of the most popular .38 Special revolvers of all time and one of Smith & Wesson's longest produced models. This S&W Model 10 is in excellent condition overall. The factory nickel finish is still bright and beautiful. There are a few tiny handling marks or spots if you examine it closely, but nothing that takes away from it's overall appearance. It retains 98% to 99% of the nickel finish. The case colored hammer and trigger still show plenty of original colors but have a few small areas of pin-prick sized discoloration from some surface rust at some point. This can be seen in the close-up photos of those parts. The bore in this Smith is minty and bright. The rifling still has sharp lands and grooves and is free from any defects or pitting. The cylinder bores are also in minty condition and show no defects of any kind. The original serial number matched checkered Walnut grips are in excellent structural shape with no cracks or repairs. Neither grip panel show any actual wear to speak of, but the left grip panel has some black/dark staining that would not wipe off. It must have been exposed to something wet while in storage or something spilled on it to cause this discoloration. The new owner may choose to refinish this side or just replace it with another grip as this is the side that Smith & Wesson did NOT number at the factory. The action on this Model 10-5 is superb, it is smooth with no grittiness or hiccups. The action is "in-time" and locks up tight with zero play in the cylinder. The trigger breaks cleanly in single or double action firing. It is obvious this gun has been fired very little during it's 40 years of existence and probably has spent the majority of that time in a safe or sock drawer! If you have been looking for a super clean nickel finish Model 10 this Smith would be an excellent choice. It is certainly nice enough to be considered an investment, but could be shot without hurting it's value as long as reasonable care is taken.
