1970's Vintage Smith & Wesson Model 60 Chief's Special .38 Special
Description:
Smith & Wesson manufactured the Model 60 Chief's Special revolver from 1965 to 1996, 31 years of production. The Model 60 is a stainless steel version of the Chief's Special, the Model 36. During the later production run of this little well-made snub nose revolver it was offered in a 2 or 3 inch barrel as well as standard or full lug barrel. This example was manufactured in the late 1970's and featured a pinned barrel, a sought-after feature by S&W collectors. A previous owner polished the original satin finished stainless steel to a bright stainless finish and replaced the original factory wood grips with these custom simulated mother of pearls. The polished stainless looks good, with just some very minor handling/storage marks visible under close inspection. This Model 60 has a minty clean bore, it still shows sharp lands and grooves in the rifling with no pitting or erosion. The action is perfectly "in-time" and locks up tight. The action is really smooth and has a feel that only these vintage guns have. The trigger is excellent in single or double action modes of operation. The vintage custom grips are in excellent shape, they are free from cracks or repairs and have a great look to them combined with the polished stainless of the revolver. This Smith & Wesson Model 60 would be an excellent addition to any collection, and would make a great carry gun with some character to it.
